Girls In Gaming, is student work by Jessica Haines. We mentored her during our time as Artist-in-Residence 2019 at Stevenson University in Owings Mills, MD. She is one of three students whose work we chose to publish under Homie House Press while there. She fully grasped and applied the practice at the center of what we do here, which is, crafting narratives that meet at the intersection of personal, political, and poetic. We are very honored to be debuting her work as a photographer, storyteller, and bookmaker. Student work is the best work!
Girls In Gaming, is a project that investigates the lives of femmes in the gaming community. Haines enters a tumultuous space of which she is very familiar with in order to guide the reader through a world few get to see. Boys dominate gaming culture, and any femme who chooses to be a part of it goes through endless amounts of harassment and sexism. This story will open your eyes to layers of oppressive behavior within an on-line (often hidden) culture.
